New toxic bacteria detected at Lac de la Ramée, prohibited for swimming
Since the beginning of the summer, the lakes around Toulouse have faced regular bathing bans due to toxic algae, called cyanobacteria. “Due to the reappearance of seaweed, swimming and all nautical activities are prohibited on the leisure base of La Ramée. We advise you not to let pets bathe”, indicates the municipality of Tournefeuille, on which the leisure center and the beach of Lac de la Ramée are located.
“In normal times, we take samples every 15 days, but when there is the presence of bacteria, we take them more regularly to reopen more quickly. The next one will take place on Monday”, indicates to 20 minutes Alexandre Pélangeon, environmental health manager at the regional health agency.
Nautical activities prohibited in Fenouillet
These micro-organisms, which appear during high temperatures, can affect ecosystems and present a certain danger for humans and animals. And as the temperatures will continue to rise this weekend, they will continue to proliferate in Sesquières. The authorities had already closed the lake last week for the same reasons. And that of Sesquières in June during the first heat wave.
For the time being, among the ten lakes authorized for swimming in Haute-Garonne, only that of La Ramée is concerned. In Fenouillet, the Lac du Bocage is faced with the same phenomenon, but it is not authorized for swimming. On its Facebook page, the town hall clarified that the samples taken on Tuesday were positive income for cyanobacteria and that therefore, until further notice, nautical activities were prohibited there, as was the bathing of animals, which are very sensitive.
