In Toulouse, a Chadian worker who saved the life of a man threatened with expulsion
“He’s a great element of the company, a very good preparer who was to become reception manager. We support him and I wouldn’t understand him being expelled, especially after saving a man’s life, ”says Marie Lys, director of Rentrée Discount, in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne).
Originally from Chad and holder of a residence permit, Mouktar, 25, is working as a seasonal handler for the second consecutive summer in the warehouse of this company specializing in school supplies. A highly appreciated employee who saved the life of a delivery man this Wednesday, July 20, but who today risks being deported to his country of origin.
That morning, around 7 a.m., a pleasant carrier of the goods felt unwell in the parking lot. “With his colleague Mamadou, Mouktar performed cardiac massage until the arrival of the Samu, a quarter of an hour later,” says the director. The victim was blue and thanks to this first aid, she regained consciousness and was evacuated to the hospital. The paramedic said it saved his life. Two and a half hours later, police officers came to the warehouse to arrest Mouktar. I asked if it had to do with what happened that morning, but they told me his papers weren’t in order. »
Application for residence rejected
The Toulouse company had however taken the steps for its hiring with the prefecture, validated in May. Mouktar was placed in the Cornebarrieu administrative detention center (CRA). According to his lawyer, the police suspect him of a false document. Stunned by this arrest, nearly 160 employees signed a petition in support of their colleague.
The Chadian was finally tried on Thursday July 21 by the administrative court, which rejected his application for residence. The high court decided to release Mouktar from the CRA, a decision which the prosecution can appeal within six hours.
