In LuxembourgEurope towards 35 million to electrify the RGTR network
LUXEMBOURG – By 2030, all RGTR buses, which traveled 81.5 million km last year, will run on electricity. With a European boost along the way.
The RGTR bus fleet consists of 1,396 buses, of which currently 158 electric buses, or 11% of the total. A proportion which is expected to increase from next year, as part of the fight against CO2 emissions. Last year, buses serving the 465 public lines traveled some 81.5 million kilometres, over 9,000 daily routes during the week.
To bring these journeys to “zero emissions”, the government agreement provides for the complete electrification of the network by 2030. By the end of 2023, the number of electric buses in service will increase to 500. And, to achieve this its objectives, Luxembourg is entitled to a European boost, according to a press release sent out on Friday morning.
Europe will indeed pay 35 million euros to the Grand Duchy, as part of a global recovery plan of 50 billion euros, decided to revive the European economy after the Covid crisis. A plan consisting of various investments for employment and for more sustainable growth. Three types of buses of 11 m, 14 m and 19 m will be eligible for this subsidy. What else has it contributed to the success of the intercity network? Since the beginning of the year, the number of passengers has increased by 26% compared to last year.
