Tornado watch for Mont-Joli and the south of Rimouski
A system capable of causing heavy rain and strong winds which may be accompanied by hail and lightning is moving towards the east of the region.
According to the meteorologist for Environment Canada, Simon Legault, a tornado alert does not automatically mean that such a phenomenon will affect the sectors concerned.
” We see rotation in the cloud which could be a sign of a tornado, but it is not certain that it is happening now. It’s just a possibility. »
Other storm cells could affect the Bas-Saint-Laurent during the evening adds Simon Legault.
According to the meteorologist, the conditions are conducive to the formation of violent thunderstorms, in particular due to the ambient heat and humidity.
Sectors affected by the severe thunderstorm watch
- Amqui – Matapedia Valley
- Matane
- Rimouski – Mont Joli
- Temiscouata
- Kamouraska – Riviere-du-Loup – Trois-Pistoles
- Baie-Comeau
- Les Escoumins – Forestville
- Manicouagan River
Environment Canada advises that a severe thunderstorm watch has been issued when atmospheric conditions are favorable for the development of thunderstorms which could be accompanied by one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds or torrential rain.
Simon Legault reminds citizens to take shelter when thunder rumbles and the weather turns violent.
