Heritage Malta cruises in the summer
Heritage Malta is offering the public the opportunity to get as close as possible to the inaccessible island of Filfla, while listening to fascinating stories told by John J. Borg, a senior curator of natural history.
Borg has been studying the island since 1982.
On 14 August and 4 September two tours are taking place around Filfla, during which Borg will give information on how Filfla was formed, the origin of its name; its attraction to pirates in times past; its use as a bombing target during British rule; animal and plant species living on Filfla today; and the reasons that led to the island being declared a nature reserve and a Natura 2000 site.
Tour participants will enjoy a boat ride while keeping an eye out for any seabirds, turtles and dolphins they may encounter during the trip. The boat departs from The Ferries in Sliema and goes straight to Filfla, passing along the east and south coasts of Malta.
There will be no landings on the island nor will there be swimming around Filfla. On its way back, however, the boat will make a stop near Delimara, for those who like to swim, and then return to Sliema.
Food and drinks should be brought by the participants themselves, as the boat bar only serves light drinks. The use of sunblock and hats is highly recommended. Children should be supervised at all times.
Each tour starts at 10am and ends at 3pm. Ticket holders should be at the pier (Luzzu Cruises point) at 9.30am. Tours can be canceled in case of bad weather.
Tickets can be purchased here or from Heritage Malta sites and museums.
