The “Bibelwelt Salzburg” museum switches off its outdoor lighting. This follows the example of the city of Nuremberg, which has not been illuminating numerous monuments since July 19, including the Protestant churches of St. Lorenz and St. Sebald, the museum announced on Tuesday.

“Why should the cathedral or the Mirabell Palace still be illuminated in the dark? This also takes away the heat from the poor, which they can no longer pay for in winter,” said Bibelwelt director Eduard Baumann. Nobody would lose any of the festival enjoyment if the Hohensalzburg Fortress was only visible in the moonlight.
“Salzburg is also beautiful in the starlight,” said Baumann, according to the announcement. The Salzburg Festival with the performance of the famous “Jedermann” starts on July 18th and lasts until August 31st.
