Hungary’s first comprehensive bird atlas was also published in printed form
The second, improved and supplemented edition of Hungary’s first comprehensive bird atlas has also been published in printed form and is available to the general public – the Hungarian Ornithological and Conservation Association (MME) informed MTI on Tuesday.
As recalled in the announcement, Hungary’s bird atlas was published at the end of September 2021 after nearly ten years of preparation. The volume summarized the information available on the population, distribution, population changes and conservation status of 420 bird species naturally occurring in Hungary until the end of 2019.
The first edition was only available to the general public in electronic form. Following the success of the bird atlas, MME decided to produce a second, improved and supplemented edition. According to announcement in this
the editors refined some of the point maps based on the data received in the meantime, and the 800-page publication was expanded with the presentation of bird species newly observed in the meantime. The book contains summaries and captions in English.
The volume was created mainly on the basis of data from the Bird Atlas Program (2014-2018) launched by the MME and the Monitoring of the Daily Madarink (1999-2018), but it processed all known observations of rarities. Its novelty is the approximately 1,700 maps and graphs, created by modern computer processing of 30 million data records collected by hundreds of surveyors.
As they write, the maps and graphs produced with internationally outstanding modeling, together with the species descriptions prepared by 64 authors, give the most complete picture of the situation of wild domestic bird species.
The second edition of the book Bird Atlas of Hungary at MME can be purchased.
