The shops in the city center of Toulouse are back in color
The 2022 summer sales end this Tuesday, July 19 for almost all of France. So how are the merchants of downtown Toulouse doing, after three years marked by the movement of yellow vests and Covid-19? Sellers and managers are perplexed even if business resumes.
“In 2018, on Saturdays, I could see 600 people pass in one day, today we are around 200 customers.”
Rising balance sheet for the sale of textiles
Textile sales are doing quite well in Toulouse, in her ready-to-wear store, Sarah records “between 5 to 7% additional turnover compared to 2019. Customers are there, especially since the end of the wearing of compulsory masks in stores”. A trend that is confirmed at Cédric next to Place Wilson: “the sales have had an effect on sales. We end up with a figure that exceeds our 2019 turnover by 10%” but the manager tempers, if his activity rebounds, the lack of personnel fails him.
Fewer people in the city center
Balance reporting is not equally good for everyone. In the world of culture and art, “we are less happy” valued the Manager of the YellowKorner Art Gallery in Toulouse.
Installed since 2013, he has never been so worried: “You have to look at the state of the city center, the number of stores closed, the number of stores that have sufficed or are changing hands and the number of empty premises. People in neighbors no longer come here on weekends! In 2018, on Saturdays, I could see 600 people pass in one day, today we are around 200. I hope that the municipality will realize this and that there will be actions that will be adapted for us. help and to find the flow”.
