No Entry | CollectionCenter Netherlands
Places in the Netherlands that are forbidden to the public – and of which the events there are therefore a great mystery – will open to our reporters. In the Forbidden Entry series, they take us through various closed spots across the country to give a glimpse into what happens there. Today our reporter Michal van der Toorn is visiting CollectionCentrum Nederland in Amersfoort.
What actually happens to the works of art that the Rijksmuseum, Paleis Het Loo, the Open Air Museum of the National Cultural Heritage Agency actually own, but cannot exhibit? These will all be managed by Wim Hoeben, location manager at CollectionCentrum Nederland. More than 30,000 square meters of depot with a beautiful collection, which actually gets to see the outside. “Maybe it’s a shame they hang here, but museums always have much more than they can show,” he says. ‘We have about sixty racks measuring four by six meters – so 48 meters in total per rack – and we have six such depots. we really have real paintings.’
