Historian: There will be a serious problem for Bulgaria with the language in the RSM
Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia signed the bilateral protocol in Sofia, part of the negotiation framework for the membership of our southwestern neighbor in the low union.
“The document is good, it is 30 pages, it is quite large. But it is important for us what concerns the Treaty of Friendship that a large part of it has entered into this protocol. The only problem that has not been completely solved is the language problem. Because of this, I expect quite serious problems for Bulgaria,” he said the historian Prof. Hristo Matanov in the “Day ON AIR” studio.
He believes that the issue of textbooks will be difficult to solve.
“The protocol says that from the 2023-2024 school year history textbooks must be rewritten. Knowing who writes them in the RSM, I do not believe that this problem will be so painless and without resistance for me. We’re doing it, but it won’t happen quickly. The protocol provides for the celebration of the common years, as well as the common history,” added Prof. Matanov on the air of Bulgaria ON AIR.
According to him, most deputies are convinced that the Macedonian language exists.
“They don’t know these details that we know. When you lost several wars, uprisings and when you forced these people to sign that they are Macedonians, you have no right to have your demands fulfilled 100%. The head of the current opposition, Mickowski, had to start with where his former boss was, who had to go to jail. He is in Hungary, but who took him there… Our services took him out because they didn’t give him his passport to check at the border posts. And now he controls the mass media that spit on Bulgaria,” the historian was outraged.
According to him, the Yugoslav policy continues.
“The problem with the Bulgarians in the Constitution is complex. We want a qualified majority, which does not exist,” added Prof. Hristo Matanov.
