The Raid police were dispatched this Monday, July 18 afternoon in the city center of Tournefeuille. Neighbors had heard gunshots.
Shots in the middle of the day in the heart of Tournefeuille. The inhabitants of Avenue Vincent-Auriol were awakened from their torpor shortly after 2 p.m. on Monday July 18 by characteristic detonations from an apartment from which a dog was barking. The witnesses immediately contacted the police.
An armed man had taken refuge in his apartment, at the back of a residence. He had fired. The alert was taken very seriously to such an extent that the Toulouse branch of the Raid and its elite police officers were deployed on the spot.
The entrenched 35-year-old is known for his psychiatric history. At the beginning of February, on a Sunday, the Raid had already intervened at his home. At the time, he threatened to “kill people”. Former boxer and amateur of combat sports, the madman was considered particularly dangerous.
This Monday afternoon, a security perimeter was established and the pharmacy very close to his residence was closed in order to facilitate the intervention of the police who were negotiating with the shooter.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m., the police managed to subdue the armed man with a taser. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene to take care of him. In view of his state of agitation, he had to be transported to the psychiatric emergency room of the Purpan hospital in Toulouse.
No one was hurt by the shots fired by the madman. Shops were able to reopen in this central artery of Tournefeuille around 4 p.m.
