Belgium accuses Chinese hackers of cyberattacks against Defense and Interior
Belgium accuses Chinese hackers of cyberattacks against Defense and the FPS Interior, we read Monday evening in a press release from Foreign Affairs. The country calls on China to take all necessary measures to investigate and deal with this situation.
The authorities have detected cyberattacks against the FPS Interior and Defense. These”suffered our sovereignty, our democracy, our security and our society“, denounce the Foreign Affairs. According to them, the two attacks can be linked to groups of Chinese hackers. The latter had access to the network of the FPS Interior for two years. The Cybersecurity Center Belgium (CCB) had previously considered that the attack seemed typical of an intelligence service, while the attack on Defense resulted in the network being cut off from the Internet for weeks and e-mail traffic with the outside world interrupted.
“Belgium condemns these malicious cyber activities, which contradict the standards of responsible state conduct endorsed by all United Nations member states“, lambasted Foreign Affairs. “We continue to urge Chinese authorities to uphold these standards and not allow their territory to be used for malicious cyber activity.“Belgium also asks for”take all appropriate and possible measures to detect, investigate and deal with the situation“.
