Man shot dead on the street in Upper Bavaria: perpetrator flees to Austria
On Friday night, a man was gunned down in the open street. The alleged perpetrator jumped into a BMW and fled. Shortly thereafter, it got loud in the district of Altötting.
Update, Friday, July 15, 10:01 am: The police gave more details about the crime. Accordingly, the alleged shooter comes from Burghausen and is 60 years old. The police reported in detail about the arrest:
“Around 10:55 p.m., the vehicle we were looking for was spotted in the “Inn-Salzach Blick” area in Überackern, Upper Austria (Braunau am Inn district). The Cobra task force was then called in. The Bavarian police helicopter “Edelweiß 3” also supported the cross-border operation.
In the course of the search around the getaway vehicle, a service dog was able to scent the suspect and finally record it. The fugitive had hidden himself in a sharply sloping embankment. The 60-year-old Kosovar was subsequently arrested by Cobra officers at around 1:30 a.m. and is being held by Austrian authorities.
A firearm was found in the suspect’s possession during the arrest. Whether it is also the alleged murder weapon is the subject of the criminal investigation. The public prosecutor’s office in Traunstein is in close contact with the Austrian judicial authorities in order to obtain the extradition of the 60-year-old from Burghauser.”
First report, Friday, July 15, 6:33 a.m.: Burghausen (Altoetting district) – The police headquarters in Upper Bavaria South reports: On Thursday evening, a 32-year-old man was shot in front of an amusement arcade in the Lindach industrial park in Burghausen. The armed shooter fled in a car. Despite an immediate emergency call and all emergency medical measures, any help came too late for the victim.

As a result, the police searched for the escaped perpetrator with countless emergency services in Upper Bavaria as well as in Lower Bavaria and Upper Austria. The Kripo Mühldorf am Inn took over the simultaneous investigations at the scene of the crime under the direction of the public prosecutor’s office in Traunstein. As part of the cross-border manhunt, the alleged shooter was temporarily arrested by the Austrian police at around 1:30 a.m.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., the police operations center received an emergency call from the Burghausen-Lindach industrial park after a man had been gunned down in front of an amusement arcade there. Nearby passers-by were able to get to safety, while the alleged shooter fled in an unknown direction in a BMW.
Despite all efforts by the emergency doctor and ambulance, any help came too late for the 32-year-old victim. The man star still on site.

Victim dies on the spot from gunshot wounds – police launch large-scale manhunt with helicopters and roadblocks
The police launched a large-scale manhunt with all available forces during the night. The focus was on the district of Altötting, but forces were also deployed in Lower Bavaria and Upper Austria. Several checkpoints and roadblocks have been set up in the area. A police helicopter was also in action.
Man shot down in Burghausen: the police deliberately gave no information about the motive
Under the direction of the public prosecutor’s office in Traunstein, the criminal police station in Mühldorf am Inn took over the investigation at the scene of the crime. For tactical reasons, no information can currently be given about the motive and other background to the crime.
Large-scale police operation in Burghausen (district of Altötting): Fire brigade and THW support operation
Around 80 volunteer fire brigades in Burghausen, Burgkirchen, Raitenhaslach and the Altötting District Fire Inspectorate supported the investigative measures by cordoning off and illuminating the scene of the crime. The technical relief organization subsequently took over these support measures from the fire brigade.
Man is arrested in Austria at night
Update 2:30 a.m.: In the early hours of Friday morning, the fugitive and urgent suspect was temporarily arrested in Upper Austria around 1:30 a.m. by the Austrian police. The man is in the custody of the Austrian authorities. There is no longer any danger to the population. Further findings are expected to be reported later in a further press release this Friday (July 15, 2022).
