A time mentioned, the closure to vehicle traffic of the Saint-Pierre bridge, in downtown Toulouse, is not on the agenda. However, cars will be prohibited for part of the summer, from Monday July 18 to Monday August 22.
But there is no question of doing work there as the inhabitants of the Pink City are used to seeing during the summer period. Pedestrianize the Saint-Pierre bridge in Toulouse, an idea of the inhabitants
The mayor of Toulouse announced the temporary pedestrianization of the bridge during the presentation of a series of works and developments. “Calming traffic on the Saint-Pierre bridge is a priority,” explains the municipality. “Only emergency and service vehicles can use it. »
“This ephemeral pedestrianization of the Saint-Pierre bridge is an initiative proposed by the inhabitants of the surrounding neighborhoods during the citizen consultation on the “Left bank – Right bank” project”, according to the Toulouse municipality.
A friendly space with deckchairs
Temporary street furniture will be installed on the Saint-Pierre bridge by the town hall of Toulouse. A friendly space will thus be created with, for example, picnic tables, deckchairs and games for children. Also, a two-way bike path will be put in place.
Traffic will then be open to motorists from Tuesday 23 August. But from 2023, their habits will once again be upset since a traffic lane of the Saint-Pierre bridge will simply be removed. It will be relayed by a two-way cycle path. Cars could only drive in one direction, from Saint-Cyprien to Place Saint-Pierre.
