All the elements of the biggest new railway project
The stops, the stations, the works on the road network and all the elements of the new southern section of the eastern Egnatia Railway.
One of major infrastructure projects (according to the relevant Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport the largest public project of all time) starts from the idea to gradually become a reality. The project was presented last week in detail in a meeting led by the deputy governor of Infrastructure and Networks of the Central Macedonia Region, Paris Bilia, and the participation of the mayors and those involved, from the ERGOSE executives.
The new line Thessaloniki – Nea Karvali – Toxotes is already in the process of the competitive dialogue, the prospective contractors have been qualified and the whole process of the tenders will be completed at the end of 2023 and that quickly because the preliminaries ran much longer than usual.
The issue concerns the new railway line in the section from the exit of the Thessaloniki New Philadelphia Railway Station to Toxotes of Xanthi, as well as the renovation of the subsidy of the existing railway line project Thessaloniki – Alexandroupoli – T.
The new line will run parallel to the existing railway line, but to the south. The existing railway line follows the route Thessaloniki – Strymonas – Serres – Drama – Toxotes.
The line Thessaloniki – Amfipoli – Nea Karvali – Toxotes which have:
-Three railway stops in: Drymo, Loutra Volvi and Nea Karvali.
-Nine railway stations in: Kavalari, Lagadikia, Nea Madyto, Vrasna, Amfipoli, Avli, Podochori, Amygdaleonas and Perni – Gravouna.
As part of the project, the required buildings of the nine railway stations and their surrounding area will be constructed, while the infrastructure of the existing Thessaloniki-Alexandroupoli line will be renovated at approximately 10 ., between Toxoton and Xanthi, including the railway station. Xanthi.
It will be connected to the existing line in New Philadelphia and Toxotes and the construction of approximately 206 km of infrastructure of the main single railway line and the infrastructure of additional railway lines to the port of Kavala and to the facilities of the Phosphate Fertilizer Industry, the Freight of Sorting Station, of Kavala VIPE as well as of the additional routes. Also, a service railway station will be formed with a suitable connection grammology with the existing railway line near Toxotes (area of the old Sugar Factory) based on the requirements of the OSE.
The construction of road projects for the development and rehabilitation of the existing side road and each road network is also foreseen, namely:
-Section: Thessaloniki – Karvali: Road network with a total length of approximately 150 km.
– Section: Karvali – Toxotes: Road network with a total length of approximately 30 km.
It is also planned to build hydraulic works for anti-flood protection – drainage – drainage of all the railway and road works.
Construction of a modern two-way signaling system with remote control and ETCS level 1, construction of a 25kV/50Hz electromotive system, non-remote control (SCADA), as well as construction of a modern telecommunications system has been foreseen.
Apart from the main metropolitan railway of Thessaloniki – Toxotes, the following railway stations are planned:
1. Freight Sorting Station, at the 3rd km. of the railway branch to the Port of Kavala.
2.Phosphate Fertilizer Industry Terminal, about the 4th km of the railway branch to the Port of Kavala.
3. Kavala Port Terminal at the 5th km of the railway branch to Limena.
4. Kavala VIPE Terminal at the end of the railway branch to VIPE with a connection point for the 77th km of the main railway line Karvali – Toxotes.
5. At the Amfipoli railway station there will be a problem with the grammar for a future connection with the new Amfipoli – N. Zichni line.
6. At the Xanthi railway station, the infrastructure will be rehabilitated, the timetable will be reformed/renovated and the necessary buildings and platforms will be reconstructed and upgraded in consultation with the OSE.
The Total 101 are the technical works that will be required, such as the overpasses and underpasses on roads through which the new railway line passes (71) and for the protection of DESFA pipelines (30).
