When Swiss high school students build a satellite in Monaco
The company Orbital Solutions, based in Fontvieille, will put this satellite into orbit at the end of 2023.
It is a world first. The Swiss Institute Le Rosey has become the first establishment in the world where secondary school students are building a satellite that will be put into orbit. And this experience took place in Monaco, in the premises of Orbital Solutions, at the end of June. 17 young people aged 15 to 17 participated in the development of a satellite, accompanied by their teachers and engineers from Orbital Solutions.
“Roseycubesat-1”, here is the name of this small device, a cube of about ten centimeters. A mini satellite of barely one kilo which will orbit 520 km from the Earth. It will take pictures, send us telemetry and also act as a transponder.

So, comment is it possible? These 17 young people have in fact followed the “Stemsat” program, created by Orbital Solutions. A course outside the specialized school one on the discovery of the engineering of the new space. The construction of this small satellite is therefore the culmination of their year of learning.
As a reminder, Orbital Solutions produced the first Monegasque nanosatellite from space, the OSM-1 Cicero, in 2020.
The mini satellite integrated by Swiss high school students will be launched in January 2023 with SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket.
