Near Toulouse. A German tourist found dead in the Garonne

While the Haute-Garonne is still on heatwave orange alert, a man was found drowned in the Garonne, probably while trying to cool off in the river, Thursday July 14, 2022, near Salles-sur-Garonne, south of Toulousein Volvestre.
SAMU divers and helicopters
A nautical rescue team from the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service, as well as the SAMU helicopter, intervened after being alerted by a passerby one body had been seen in the Garonne.
Wanting to cool off, he’s carried away
Firefighters from Rieux-Volvestre, Muret, Saint-Gaudens, or Toulouse-Lougnon were dispatched to the scene, with the assistance of the gendarmerie and municipal services. But the emergency services could not do anything to save the man, to recover without life. He had 61 years old.
It was a german tourist vacationing with friends in the area. According to the first elements, he wanted to cross the Garonne from the Rieux-Volvestre leisure center, before being carried away by the river for several kilometers. The gendarmes of the community of brigades of Carbonne are in charge of the investigation.
