“For several days, the Haute-Garonne department has been concerned by an atmospheric pollution phenomenon, recalls the prefecture of Haute-Garonne, which indicates that “the information and recommendation procedure was thus announced on July 14” on the department.
Since this Friday at midnight
In view of weather situation taken on Friday, with an orange heat wave alert still in progress, “the pollution episode should persist”.
“As a result, from Friday July 15, 2022 at 12:01 a.m., the department is going into an alert procedure, with the implementation of emergency measures to limit the emission of pollutants”.
What are the measures implemented?
The prefect Etienne Guyot therefore implemented the emergency measures following “to limit the emission of pollutants”, applicable from Friday, July 15 at 12:01 a.m. throughout the Haute-Garonne department:
– Lowering of gears maximum allowed:
- a 110km/h on portions limited to 130 km/h;
- a 90km/h on portions limited to 110km/h;
- a 70km/h on portions limited to 90km/h.
– Ban on incineration of plants cut and standing
– Report polluting operations industrial.
How to explain the phenomenon?
“The meteorological conditions (sunshine, high temperatures and weak wind) indicate the formation of ozone in the air for several days”, explains the prefecture, “with a high concentration on the region, which should exceed the current threshold of information and recommendations on the department”. She estimates that this Friday, these weather conditions must continue, maintaining ozone concentrations at a high level.
How to limit air pollution?
The Haute-Garonne prefecture recommends: reducing the speed of all vehicles; Practice carpooling; Use public transportation ; Favor non-polluting modes of travel (walking, cycling, etc.); Avoid lighting ornamental fires; Reduce the use of generators; Postpone maintenance or cleaning work with non-electric tools (mower, hedge trimmer, etc.) or using solvents, paints, varnishes, etc.; Respect the ban on burning green waste.
