Toulouse: Internet users are annoyed after the laying of concrete blocks across the cycle paths
Bike users have recently posted photos on social networks showing concrete blocks placed across bike lanes. Jonnhy Dunal, elected mayor of Toulouse, takes stock of the reasons for their presence.
Several days, photos on Twitter have been circulating from angry cyclists from Toulouse. Indeed, these users of cycle paths have been immortalized via photos published on social networks of concrete blocks laid across areas dedicated to cyclists in Toulouse. This is particularly the case on the Saint-Michel bridge.
The installation of these blocks entails for those who circulate by bicycle maneuvers to be made or changes of routes to be made. But as indicated by Jonnhy Dunal, elected to the town hall of Toulouse in charge of events, parties, demonstrations and related administrative police powers, these blocks were not placed with the aim of blocking the way to cyclists. “These are blocks installed for the celebration of July 14 in Toulouse to prevent a car from driving into the crowd. July 14 is one of the popular events that brings together the most people in the city and therefore which requires security measures. We have the sad and painful memory of July 14 in Nice, we apply strict security measures and these blocks are part of this plan to protect the crowd from an attack, “says the elected official. .
These anti-ram blocks have therefore been installed at strategic locations to avoid any intrusion when nearly 200,000 people will be in Toulouse to watch the fireworks. From this Friday, July 15 in the morning, all these blocks laid in the city will be removed and therefore the cycle paths concerned will be new passable.
