In LuxembourgNational Lottery players shared 72 million euros
LUXEMBOURG – The National Lottery achieved a record turnover of 126.9 million euros in 2021. Of which 28 million were distributed to the beneficiaries of the Œuvre Grande-Duchesse Charlotte.
In Luxembourg, when you play EuroMillions, Zubito, Lotto… In short, one of the games organized by the National Lottery, it’s for a good cause, since the benefits of the organization are reversed to the Work Grand Duchess Charlotte, who redistributes them to various beneficiaries. And in this little game, the year 2021, the results of which were published this Thursday, was an excellent vintage.
Indeed, the National Lottery achieved a record turnover of 126.9 million euros, 14% more than in 2020. Enough to make a large number of players happy, since the winners shared 72 million euros (+19%). Once the miscellaneous operating costs had been removed, there remained a little over 28 million euros in profits to be entirely reversed to the Work. An increase, this time, of 29.37% compared to 2020.
The still popular EuroMillions
Of this total, half was distributed between the National Solidarity Fund (8 million euros) and the social offices (4 million euros). Various institutions, such as the Medico-Social League, Natur&ëmwelt or the Red Cross and Caritas, shared 5.2 million euros. There remain 10.8 million euros, twice as much as in 2020, for one-off aid to no less than 217 projects, 87 more than the year before. Social, cultural and environmental projects… Very diverse causes have been given a nice helping hand.
On the National Lottery side, the EuroMillions, a record boosted by two jackpots (for the era) at 210 and 220 million euros, remains the most popular game, with 38% of stakes, ahead of Rubbel (24%) and Lotto (21%). The distributors, including a third of tobacco bars, shared 9.3 million euros in commissions.
