The government’s responsibilities in the management of the pandemic are criminal
The executive of the main opposition party complained that the government essentially represents the health companies.

The former health minister was a keynote speaker at a themed event “Strong National Health System for Equality and Dignity in Health” organized by the Health Thematic of the prefectural committees A’ and B’ Thessaloniki and the party’s local youth. Mr. Xanthos spoke of criminal political responsibilities of the government in the management of the pandemic, which, he said, is reflected in the indicators as a health tragedy. He emphasized that failure is not due to incompetence, but to conscious choice. “There are preventable deaths in our country, if there was another type of management and the pandemic was treated as an opportunity to strengthen the NHS. They did not fail because they are incompetent or poorly managed. inequalities”, he characteristically said.
Mr. Xanthos denounced that the government essentially represents the health enterprises, while it made its pre-election commitments for PPP and enforcement of the culture of the private-economic sector. “And in this area the government is on the wrong side of history,” he said and added that because he did not want to invest in health, everything was being done incompletely and late, that’s why it was not effective. “Today we are at a critical crossroads. The dilemma is simple: either there will be serious preparation and serious planning, or the public structures and the public covered by the market will shrink,” he stressed.
The former minister expressed his assessment that the people will give a vote of confidence to SYRIZA-PS. “Society, despite the disappointment in the political system, will give us another chance in conditions more difficult than those of 2015,” he noted and added that SYRIZA-PS has a health plan ready.
The Head of Thematic Health N.E. addressed the event. A’ of Thessaloniki, Christos Rokos, who mentioned that in many European countries there was a serious distancing from the neoliberal model. “The only country that remained attached to this model was the Greece of the Mitsotakis government”, he said and added that “the permanent exclusion of those without health care is the epitome of the most vulgar discrimination”. He emphasized that the National Health Service must be immediately strengthened in order to save as many lives as possible in the sixth wave of the pandemic.
