It’s only the second project of this type in France for lidl : within a few weeks, the October 5, 2022the German distribution company will inaugurate its brand new supermarket in Portet-sur-Garonneclose to Toulouse. His particuliarity ? A structure largely designed in wood.
A construction site in May
Unmissable when you take the road to Spain, the new store will offer more than 1000m2 of retail space when it opens. “We have taken over wasteland, explains Helen Vivien, regional real estate manager. Intersport will settle right next door. We share the parking lot. »
Started in May, the construction site should still take a few weeks before being able to welcome the public in early October. The installation of the first plank on the ground was recorded this Tuesday, July 12, 2022. The former Lidl located at 37 route of Spain will close its doors immediately. Another sign should take place in the premises fairly quickly.
A first in Occitania
After Epinal (Vosges) on March 15, Lidl therefore chose Occitanie to continue this type of construction. In reality, this building will be made of 60% wood. “Several constraints, particularly in terms of safety, do not allow us to build a 100% wood store”, specifies Corentin Viorneytechnical Manager.
“All the exterior walls of the building are made of wood from the Jura, continue Romain Garnier, national technical manager at Lidl France. The rest comes from Sweden or Norway. »
“If this type of construction is more disbursed? Yes, by around 20% compared to a ‘classic’ store. »
An eco-responsible supermarket
Concretely, what does this type of structure change for the establishment? “This will allow us to have natural lighting with a roof entirely made up of photovoltaic panels. The energy produced by these structures will supply 50% of the lighting in the store. An “intelligent air conditioning” will also be installed. It will adapt in particular to the number of customers in the store.
A picnic area is also planned as well as the planting of 100 trees around the site.
More recruitments
On the sidelines of the construction, Lidl France has recruited 15 people currently in training to be ready on opening day. “The objective is to transform all of this into permanent contracts,” argues management, which also indicates that recruitment continues.
Versatile team members, managers and students (7 or 14 hour contracts) are particularly sought after. More information here.
As a reminder, major works are currently underway in the area of the future supermarket. The huge construction site of the roundabout in the commercial area started at the end of June. A project that should be completed in December 2022.
