Hungary is also one of the fastest in raising the minimum wage in the EU
The Hungarian minimum wage increase is also a model in Europe, Hungary is also the fastest in the EU to raise the minimum wage – it is not true that the Fidesz European Parliament (EP) representative group in connection with the EP Employment and Social Affairs Committee (EMPL) voting on Tuesday on the current for minimum wage. On a directive proposal made during negotiations between EU institutions
In its statement sent to MTI, the group of Fidesz EP representatives quoted Ádám Kósa, one of the members of the group, who stated that the current compromise is nothing new and that it still exists to let them determine the value of the minimum wage, taking into account their own economic and social circumstances . . The proposal still gives space to the Fidesz-KDNP policy of raising the minimum wage – emphasized.
The Hungarian minimum wage increase is also a model in Europe, during the first Orbán government and since 2010, minimum wages in Hungary have increased radically, said the representative.
The minimum wage increased from 73,500 forints to 200,000 forints, and the guaranteed minimum wage from 89,500 forints to 260,000 forints, which shows that even in a European comparison, Hungary has the fourth highest rate of increase in the minimum wage, while it is the fastest among the V4 countries – reminded the politician.
The draft directive put to the vote does not threaten the Fidesz-KDNP policy of increasing the minimum wage, as it only entrusts them to determine the amount of the minimum wage based on their own economic and social circumstances, it only provides a calculation proposal for this” – remarked the EP representative.
He remembers that in the last 28 years, the purchasing power of the minimum wage increased only under right-wing governments. Although the Gyurcsány government had the opportunity to act and increase the Hungarian minimum wage, it did nothing to this end. The results of the left-wing governments are dwarfed by the current values, he underlined.
The Fidesz-KDNP government continues to treat the minimum wage increase as a priority, and this is in line with the goals of the current directive proposal, which is binding for them – added Ádám Kósa.
