Thessaloniki: The Petralona Cave will be open to the public in 2023 – Autopsy of Lina Mendoni
“The next tourist season the cave of Petralonijust like the museum, they will once again attract the many guests”, said the Minister of Culture and Sports Lina Mendoniduring the autopsy he carried out on Friday (8/7), stressing that they are an important cultural and economic resource for the region and the wider region.
According to programmingthe cave will be dedicated in May and the museum in August 2023. At Petralona cave the project “Elevation of the Petralona Cave and Upgrading of its Infrastructure” is in progress, budget 1,053,848 euros, funded by the PEP of Central Macedonia – NSRF 2014-2020.
In the museum the “Re-exhibition of Petralona Museum collections” project is in progress, with a budget of 529,200 euros financed by the PEP of Central Macedonia-ESPA 2014-2020.
The accessibility project for the disabled both in the museumas well as in cavebelongs to Ministry of Defense to be funded by Recovery Fund. On Friday afternoon, Lina Mendoni inaugurated the exhibition “The Revolution of 1821 in Halkidiki” in the old building of the joint-stock complex of Neo Flogitans, which completes the cycle of anniversary events of the Ministry of Culture and Sports for the completion of 200 years since the beginning of the Revolution of 1821.
In the autopsy of the hands, the minister was accompanied by the mayor Aristotelis Stelios Valianos, the head of the Ephorate of Paleoanthropology of Speleology Andreas Darlas, the head of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Halkidiki and Mount Athos Giorgos Skiadaresis and officials.
