After Paris, Bordeaux, Caen and Geneva, the exhibition The cat roams moved to the Principality of Monaco for three months. The Belgian designer Philippe Geluck came in person to supervise the installation of the twenty monumental bronze statues of his Cat. Cats three meters high that did not go unnoticed on the Larvotto promenade facing the sea.
For more than thirty years, Philippe Geluck has taken a sharp, relevant and sometimes moving look at current events and the turpitudes of our world with cat. A quirky side, very second degree and a Belgian humor that has long seduced the French public who adore this big cat and the comical situations in obliging the place its creator. But behind the humour, there is always a message and themes dear to Geluck, such as pollution, road violence or even freedom of expression.
A critical look at our society that he presents for the first time in this tiny territory so special that is the Principality of Monaco: “If you ask me for an opinion on Monaco itself, on the Principality, on the people who cross it, I suggest that we talk about it again when I leave the territory… No, just kidding“, laughs Philippe Geluck, who will not spend the summer on the Rock near his Cats. The statues will remain in place until October 2, before continuing their wanderings in other cities in France and in Europe.
