Camp in Austria – Union has to tackle this chunk – Bundesliga
Off to the training camp in Austria! Union Montag is to charter from Schönefeld to Salzburg, then continue by bus to Neukirchen am Großvenediger. Coach Urs Fischer (56) has a few problems in his luggage that he has to solve before the start of the cup in Chemnitz (1 August).
Problems that became visible again on Saturday in the test against Bohemians Dublin (2-1). A notion that Fischer called “modest”; Midfielder Rani Khedira (28) rated as “sluggish”. Fischer therefore has to tackle these big chunks in the Alps.
► New striker Jordan Siebatcheu (26/YB Bern) has to be strengthened. The successor to Taiwo Awoniyi (24/Nottingham) made an attractive debut in Braunschweig (0-1), but did little against Dublin. The striker still needs the drawn tests against Budweis (15 July) and Udine (16 July) in Austria, as well as against Nottingham (23 April). Because Union needs its goals.
► The successor to Grischa Prömel (27 / Hoffenheim) is needed. The newcomers Paul Seguin (27 / Fürth), Janik Haberer (28 / Freiburg) or Milos Pantovic (26 / Bochum) are available, as is Andras Schäfer (23). No one has pushed themselves so far. Haberer was missing recently and is waiting for his first game.
► The tension must be high: The Fischer-Elf has been characterized for years by making few mistakes. But both in Braunschweig (Becker) and against Dublin (Jaeckel) mistakes led to goals being conceded. The pros have to stay focused.
There is a lot to do before July 20th. Malick Sanogo (18/back to the U19) and Timo Baumgartl (26/cancer surgery) are not in Salzburger Land. There is a question mark behind Kevin Möhwald (29 / corona isolation).
