Where to have a green picnic in Barcelona
In addition to the beach, Barcelona offers pleasant spots for a cool picnic this summer. Selection.
The Glade of Glòries, for comfort
Inaugurated at the end of 2010 and now completely car-free since the opening of the Glòries tunnel, the park of the same name is a very well-appointed spot for picnicking during the day. Wooden tables and chairs, parasols, deck chairs, the place also has a nice play area for children.
Address : Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes, 37-38, Barcelona
Hourly : Open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Gardens of Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer, for the greenery
Very close to the Mirò foundation in Montjuic, this pretty, well-flowered garden has large areas of shaded lawn and several ponds, which give the whole a fresh and pleasant air. Still little mentioned by tourists and locals, it is easy in any season to find a space to land.
Address : Av. Miramar, 30, Barcelona
Hourly : Open daily from 10 a.m. to sunset (9 p.m. indicated)
The gardens of Joan Brossa, for the space and the view
Also in Montjuic, and very close to the Verdaguer gardens, the Joan Brossa gardens offer large picnic areas, with tables and benches. Ideal for groups and celebrations. The park also has a play area for children and young teenagers, as well as great views of Barcelona and the cable car.
Address : Jardines Joan Brossa, Plaça de Dante, 9999, 08038 Barcelona
Hourly : Open daily from 10 a.m. to sunset (9 p.m. indicated)
Cervantes Park, for the colors
Even though Cervantes Park is at its most beautiful in spring, when the roses are in bloom, visitors can still enjoy this spectacle all year round. With more than 245 varieties of roses, this park in the Pedralbes district stands out among the parks and gardens of Barcelona.
The Mirador del Migdia Park, for the horizon
If you’re not afraid of climbing, head to Montjuïc and Mirador del Migdia for a picnic with a view. The place has a large shaded picnic area but also a bar (La Caseta del Migdia) which offers drinks and simple dishes. The view of the port and the sea are breathtaking, and the light air from the heights sometimes refreshes the most scorching days.
Address: Mirador del Migdia, Passeig del Migdia, 08038 Barcelona
Hourly : Free access without time restrictions
Parc del Guinardó, for the panorama
The pretty Parc del Guinardó is a nice alternative to the much-quoted Carmel Bunkers. You have to climb to the top to enjoy a panoramic view of Barcelona’s monuments and in particular the Sagrada Familia or the Torre Glòries. Further down, the vegetation is lush, perfect for cooling off during the summer. The park is quite steep, but there are picnic tables on several levels, as well as games for children.
