The Hôtel des Ventes Artpaugée is auctioning on Sunday, July 10, all of the furniture from an 18th century mansion located in Dremil-Lafage. Reportage.
Entering this superb 18th century brick house in Dremil-Lafage, surrounded by fields and woods, you go back in time. This building surrounded by outbuildings, rebuilt in 1754, was, until recently, still inhabited. It is now over. Following the sale by the heirs, all the furniture is auctioned this Sunday by the Hôtel des Ventes Arpaugée. The public also has the opportunity to go on site this Saturday to discover the 500 lots distributed over the plays and have fun. The two auctioneers are delighted: “What is rare is the atmosphere of this house where everything has remained in good condition since the 18th century. All these objects had, until recently, a daily life”.
Under the piercing gaze of the paintings of ancestors, crockery, household linen, clothing, military uniforms are lined up. So many pieces skillfully staged by the Hôtel des Ventes: “After the sale of the estate, we came on site for several days to list, estimate, do research, draw up the catalog, advertise. It is fascinating, intense and rigorous work. It is also necessary to stage the whole thing to inspire the public. Make him curious”.

Among the many lots, a rich set of 18th century silverware, including candelabra and a hundred tableware engraved with the family crest. “In the 18th century, silverware was melted down to finance the many wars. It is therefore a rare collection.
In the upstairs bedrooms, embroidered 19th century dresses, christening coats, blouses and lace petticoats are piled up. On hangers, a uniform of Empire General Dupau, one of the ancestors, awaits a collector.
A “heartbreaking” sale for Elizabeth, the eldest daughter of the siblings and the last owner who lived here until a very advanced age, before going to a retirement home: “Mom told me: now you you manage all seven. I don’t want to know anything more. Hence the sale. For twenty years, Elizabeth lived nearby, in the house attached to the estate: “My grandmother has lived here since the 1920s. She loved this house. She had even known the chapel. Unfortunately, all the papers concerning the have disappeared”, found Elizabeth who had to move in an emergency and turn the page.
