Ombudsman answered that Russian should be taught in schools – Ukraine – tsn.ua
Ombudsman for Education Sergei Gorbachev said that in Ukraine there is no direct ban on the study of the Russian language in schools. He also doesn’t mind foreign Russians taking their language to schools.
As for the department of the Russian language at the philological faculties, everything depends on the policy of the institution of higher education.
About this Gorbachev said said in an interview with Detector Media.
“I am not opposed to people considering themselves Russians, professing the Russian language. If parents consider themselves Russian and apply to the school with proper treatment, then why not? There is no direct ban on the study of the Russian language in Ukraine,” the Ombudsman noted.
He added:
Gorbachev also commented on the issues of studying the Russian language in the Western Military District.
“I don’t know, we’ll look. Recently, there have already been reports in the media about the closure of the Department of Russian Language and History of Russian Literature at Karazin Kharkiv University. The Department of Slavic Philology will operate at the meeting,” reality in accordance with the requests of applicants.
Recall that from September 1, the school of Zhytomyr will stop learning Russian.
