Toulouse. Photos full of nostalgia at “La maison d’à Côté”
If you pass the rue Jean de Pins in the district of Saint-Cyprien, do not hesitate to push the door of “La Maison d’à Côté”. This insertion restaurant for women, catering service and jam, managed by the association Olympe de Gouges, is also a place of culture which currently hosts a very beautiful exhibition of photographs. “Shades along the way” is the second solo exhibition of Sitty Dada, a photographer from Blagnac who began as an autodidact, and later graduated from ETPA. Born “on the other side of the world” in New Caledonia, to a Franco-Malagasy mother and a Franco-Indian father, Sitty Dada, project manager in a major airline, has had “travel in the skin”. Her passion for photography came later in her college years, thanks to a passionate French teacher. Street scenes, timeless urban landscapes, portraits, “Shades along the way” is a gallery of forty black and white or color photos, taken during private trips or simple walks in France, Madagascar, Seychelles, Japan, America. But beware, this is not a travel diary and even less vacation photos. A fan of the 70s and of Vivian Maier, Sitty likes “everything that has lived”. For black and white, she still uses her original film camera, a Lubitel. To her colors she gives a washed-out or vaporous effect, faithfully restored by the Picto laboratory prints, which conveys all the nostalgia of her gaze. “I am told that my photos cannot be dated and that is the greatest compliment for me”, admits the artist who wishes to devote himself more to his passion and is currently looking for other places to ‘exposure.
