Orbán: We will strengthen Hungary’s southern borders
The government has decided to strengthen Hungary’s southern borders and protect the safety of the Hungarians living there, setting up border patrol units, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced to the in his video uploaded to his Facebook page on Friday.
The prime minister said: “we will set up hunting units to protect your safety, and then in cooperation with the police”.
In the first step, 2,200 border hunters will be trained and put into service, Viktor Orbán said, adding that their number will be increased to 4,000 later. He signed the decree on this on Friday, he said.
Viktor Orbán also announced that a government meeting was held for more than ten hours on Thursday, and the reason for this, as he said, is that the war in Ukraine threatens not only our economy, but also our security.
The Prime Minister said: it is important that the food supply of many African countries is in danger. Due to the food crisis, they expect that migration pressure will continue to increase on our southern borders. Hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants may set off for Hungary and Europe in the coming weeks and months, he said.
Viktor Orbán indicated: “we are already feeling the forewind of this, the number of illegal border crossers has increased.” Their behavior is increasingly violent, even brutal. On the Serbian side, there have already been armed clashes, which claimed a fatality. It is also not uncommon that they try to enter the territory of Hungary using their weapons, he said.
