Mostafa Fourar, rector of the Toulouse academy: “The harmonization of marks in the baccalaureate is a measure of justice”
Mostafa Fourar, present Thursday July 7, at the Dépêche du Midi for the reception in honor of the bachelors who obtained the mention very well, gives an update on the results of the baccalaureate in Haute-Garonne.
The success rate of the baccalaureate (87.3%) in Haute-Garonne is down four points compared to last year?
There were less continuous checks and, of course. This year, we had organized events, even if there was a delay, we are no longer in the health context. We return to the real baccalaureate which follows the reform. Automatically, it is a success rate that was expected. It is not a surprise. We knew full well that there would be a mechanical drop in results. Because validating an exam on the basis of a continuous assessment mark, in a context where the students were not aware that certain marks would be counted, is different. The professors, too, had not marked in the perspective of the baccalaureate either. There, the rules were applied by the teachers and a harmonization was carried out by our inspectors.

Precisely, has this been the subject of criticism from the teachers’ unions?
The proof that not, in view of the success rate. When I hear that the inspectors have raised the notes, it’s totally false. We see it in the results. The harmonization of marks is a measure of justice, between the different establishments, the different classes, when there is a heterogeneity of the rating.
Apart from the health crisis, has the department finally regained a success rate close to previous years?
It is an honorable rate. Compared to the national average, we are 1.5 points above. It is a very successful academy. What I do not want is a debate that devalues this diploma in the eyes of the students who have made a lot of effort, in the eyes of the parents who believe in the success of their children and it is a moment that remains festive.

But the display of results no longer moves the crowds?
Yes, I’m sorry. The baccalaureate remains a ritual. Now, students connect on their tablet, on the internet.
