Woman stabbed to death during political event on Gotland
Stockholm: A woman was killed in a stabbing in daylight on the island of Gotland in Sweden, reported AFP. The incident took place at the place where Sweden’s top politicians had gathered. A man is said to have attacked the woman with a sharp weapon.
The incident occurred at 2 pm local time in central Visby. The 33-year-old has been arrested by the police. According to the newspaper Expressen, the perpetrator was believed to have connections to the neo-Nazi group NMR. However, there was no official confirmation in this regard.
After the woman was stabbed, she received immediate emergency care on the spot before she was taken to hospital. However, she died during treatment. “An intensive investigation is currently underway. Part of that is to establish the motives and background of the detainees,” reports the news agency, quoting Fredrik Persson, head of the Gotland Police.

At the time of the incident, there were a lot of people at the gathering. The motive for the murder is still unclear. The police do not rule out a political motive behind the murder. However, the police believe that the incident is not related to Almedalen Week.
It is noteworthy that Almedalen Week is an annual event that takes place in Sweden week 26. The event is arranged in and around Almedalen, a park in the city of Visby on Gotland. During the event, Sweden’s political parties often present new policies and also launch campaigns.
