Climate crisis, species extinction, hunger and inequality, 6,000 protest in Munich against G7 politics
Munich, June 25, 2022
On Saturday, June 25, 2022, the day before the G7 summit, 6,000 people marched through downtown Munich under the motto #GerechtGehtAnders. The protesters call on the #heads of state and #government of the G7 countries to fight #poverty resolutely and to end #oil, #gas and #coal dependency as a consequence of the Russian #war against #Ukraine and to strengthen the global #dependence hunger crisis to take action. A broad alliance of more than 15 civil society organizations called for the #demonstration.
For the alliance, the colorful demonstration is a clear sign of how strong the desire of many people is for a fundamentally different policy in the G7 countries: They finally want to take decisive action against climate change, end the destruction of nature and fight hunger, poverty and inequality . The demonstrators are also demanding an active peace policy from the G7 countries. Significantly more funds are to be made available for crisis prevention, civil conflict management and development cooperation.
Tomorrow, Sunday, the #G7 summit begins at Schloss Elmau near Garmisch Partenkirchen. There the federal government, shielded from the public, will receive the heads of state and government of large industrialized countries for the #G7 summit until Tuesday.
