Low wages are the main reason for emigrants not returning to Portugal

Low Portuguese cases, the time of return Portugal and health are the main ones that return Portugal Newspaper citing a study by SEDES – Association for Economic and Social Development.
According to the newspaper, the difference between the amounts paid for the same type of work in Portugal and in the country in which they live is the main reason why the majority (62%) of Portuguese abroad do not return.
On the other hand, “returns from cronyism and return of opportunities” are other causes that keep 30% of emigrants away from professionals, as well as the lack of professional opportunities in Portugal (27%).
Another obstacle to the return of 22% of Portuguese people is the health system, as well as the lack of social recognition of professional skills (19%) and in administrative services (16%).
The SEDES study also mentions the “lack of support for their return” and the fact that they do not want to interrupt their children’s schooling as reasons given by emigrants. For these reasons, most emigrants end up postponing their return until later (43%) or only after retirement (71%).
