The Landtag deals with the killing of wolves – salzburg.ORF.at

The Salzburg state parliament WILL WORK THIS WEEK WITH THE CONCLUSION OF WOLF. The Freedom Party wants to apply for a model planned in Tyrol to be adopted in Salzburg. This provides for different wolf zones in grazing areas.
The Tyrolean state parliament in Innsbruck is planning three wolf zones: one where predators remain absolutely protected, another where removal would be possible – but only under certain legal conditions. And a third, where the shooting of alleged problem wolves is to be decided and executed relatively quickly.
This model could also be adopted in Salzburg without major changes, the Freedom Party believes – although the wolf is under strong protection in the EU, says the Salzburg FPÖ boss Marlene Svazek: “In many European countries the wolf is already hunted – so it’s possible is it.”
Zone plan for ÖVP and SPÖ conceivable
Graduated protection zones are not new in and of themselves, says the responsible provincial councilor Josef Schwaiger (ÖVP), he considers the Tyrolean plan to be probably sensible. However, adds Schwaiger, designating practically wolf-free zones could become problematic under European law.
The SPÖ also sees the Tyrolean zone plan positively and wants to submit its own application to the state parliament. There is far too little data on the actual wolf population in the state, says Salzburg’s SPÖ boss David Egger.
The Greens are currently cautious. Their club chairwoman Kimbie Humer-Vogl refers to the wildlife summit in May, where the removal of wolves was made possible, she says. There is currently no need for further regulations.
