Two sources, including France’s L’Équipe, report that Germany’s Kraichgauer is interested in bringing Racing Straßburg defender Alexander Djiku across the border. The 27-year-old centre-half was able to increase his market value to around €10m last year after a stellar club campaign.
The Montepelier-born defender represents Ghana at international level. Djiku was one of the only bright spots in the country’s disappointing AFCON campaign, scoring a goal in the final game of the group stage against Comoros. Part and parcel of the Black Star’s subsequent qualification for the upcoming World Cup, he was awarded Ghanaian Footballer of the Year honors by the country’s FA.
L’Équipe and online portal Foot Mercato report that Hoffenheim will face competition for the Sevilla FC player. The short distance from Alsace to Sinsheim can nevertheless leave an advantage to the German club. Djiku, in the last year of his contract, would not necessarily have to uproot himself. Strasbourg and Sinsheim are only 90 minutes apart.
