Yannick Flohè, Alex Megos and KVÖ Trio in the Villars semifinals
Three Austrian climbing aces are fighting for the finals at the IFSC Lead World Cup in Villars (SUI): Jessica Pilz (ÖAV Haag), Mattea Pötzi (ÖAV Villach) and Stefan Scherz (NFÖ Neunkirchen) qualified in the semifinals of the best 26 made.
From the IFSC Climbing World Cup Innsbruck, part of the KVÖ team goes directly to Switzerland, where the World Cup competitions in speed and lead are on the program in Villars. In the absence of Jakob Schubert, it was Stefan Scherz who qualified for the semifinals.
After a mixed route, the Lower Austrian showed himself big on the second route and secured 18th place overall with 33 first holds and thus the semi-final qualification. For the 20-year-old, after reaching the semi-finals in Innsbruck, it is the next step towards the top of the world.
After this performance on the second route, I know that I can climb well and that I am fit.
Mathias Posch (ÖAV Innsbruck), who recently found out that he had been nominated for the World Games in Brimingham, was 39th. Like other athletes, a jump on the second route was his undoing.
The two DAV athletes Yannick Flohè and Alex Megos were able to confirm their good performances from Innsbruck in the qualification and finished 10th and 8th in the semi-finals.
jesika Pilz and Mattea Pötzi are on
Jessica Pilz was once again the best Austrian among the women. The 2018 lead world champion qualifies as the 15th sovereign for the semi-finals.
I had a hard time today, I didn’t really get into fighting. Tomorrow is a new day, maybe things will look better then.
Mattea Pötzi provided a positive surprise: The 21-year-old from Carinthia ranked 24th and made it into a World Cup semi-final for the second time after Briancon 2019.
We’re a small team here and we’ve got men and women in the semi-finals. We’re excited to see what the route setters will come up with in the semi-finals – the three of them have the potential to make it into the final.
so the satisfied KVÖ coach Kilian Fischhuber
The semi-finals (10 a.m.) and the finals of the best eight (8 p.m.) will take place on Saturday.
