30 new events proposed by the Portugal-France Season take place in 11 cities, from north to south of Portugal.
9 summer festivals, from gastronomy to music, through cinema and theater, have the presence of the Season.
Lisbon’s first international street food festival, Foodtopia: A Feast of Food & Stories, welcomes 50 renowned chefs from around the world, who together earn more than 10 Michelin Stars.
French filmmaker and curator Marie Losier is celebrated at the 30th edition of the Curtas Vila do Conde film festival with a special programme.
The programming body of the Portugal-France Season continues to unfold from strength to strength. After the start of O Verão da Temporada, in July, 30 new flood events are known to spread across Portugal, from Porto to Sines, from Vila de Rei to Tomar.
This weekend, July 2nd and 3rd, at the Jardim Botânico Tropical, in Belém, Lisbon’s first international street food festival, Foodtopia: A Feast of Food & Stories, will take place. In the number one event organized by Amuse Bouche, within the scope of the Season and with the support of Turismo de Portugal, there are 50 national and international chefs – many of them at the helm of Michelin-starred restaurants. On the Portuguese side, Henrique Sá Pessoa, Rui Paula, Michele Marques, Marlene Vieira or António Galapito are called up, and on the French side, Vincent Farges, Krishna Léger and Jean-Luc Damien-Verdeau, among eight French guests. In this meeting, where everyone is compatible with history and irreverence, the importance of the gastronomic flows that are shared today in a globalized world is privileged.
To the north, the 30th edition of Curtas Vila Conde – International Film Festival (9 to 17 July) in honor of filmmaker and curator Marie Losier through a set of activities, with the unprecedented exhibition “Excesso Chamalo” (from July 9 to September 4), developed by the artist in partnership with David Legrand. In parallel with the exhibition at Solar – Galeria de Arte Cinemática, a performance, a guided tour and a conversation are planned. And, during the film festival, a selection of films by Losier and directors who marked her artistic career, under a carte blanche regime.
In music, the French invasion takes some of the most illustrious, such as the FMM Sines – Festival Músicas do Mundo, in Alentejo (22nd to 30th of July), which, through the Season, develops a collaboration and an exchange with the Imaterial Festival (Évora ) and JSLP – Festival Jazz Sous les Pommiers (Coutances) of Normandy. The unavoidable ZêzereArts (July 14th to 31st), dedicated to classical music, four historic cities in the Middle Tagus region, and receives cellist Ophélie Gaillard to develop the program “Travessias – A European Cooperation Project”. Through various moments, from concerts on heritage to masterclasses, Gaillard will inspire deep cultural exchanges between Portugal and France. Occupying every weekend of the month, the Carrillion Festival (July 2nd to 31st) makes use of one of the largest sets of bell ringers in the world installed, since the 18th century, in the National Palace of Mafra.
Also in the musical programme, the concerts “Salve Regina Revisitada”, in Aveiro (4th of July, at the Museum of Aveiro / Santa Joana), and “Leva Leva: Litanie des Pêcheurs Portugais”, in Lisbon (15th and 16th of July) stand out. July, at maat – Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology) and in Porto (21 July, at Non Verbal Club, and 22 July, at Passos Manuel – location to be confirmed).
The offer of the Portugal-France Season, in July, is also extensive and diverse in the areas of theater and dance. In concert halls in Lisbon and Porto, not to be missed: “Catarina e Beleza de Matar Fascistas”, by Tiago Rodrigues (6 to 10 July, at Teatro Nacional D. Maria II), and the national premieres of “Falaise” , by Camille Decourtye and Blaï Mateu Trias – Baro d’evel company (7 and 8 July, at Teatro Rivoli), and “Ils Nous Ont Oubliés”, by Séverine Chavrier (8 and 9 July, at Teatro Nacional São João) . In the 3rd edition of the Festival de Almada (4th and 18th of July) les 9 are creations, the creations “Maille dans vee”, by Dorothée Munyaneza and again, but inserted in the festival, “Fala”, by Camille Decourtye and Blaï Mateu Trias – Baro d’evel company (this occasion, in the Great Auditorium of the Centro Cultural de Belém). In Alentejo, in Serpa, the festival NNN – Noites na Nora (July 8th to 23rd) unveils the show “A Corda Bamba”, the result of a co-creation between the Theater Company BAAL17 from Serpa and the Companhia Nómada de Tango from Bordeaux, New Aquitaine. And, in Sintra, the colloquium “Musical and theatrical migrations: European performative practices in the 17th and 18th centuries” (July 8 to 10, at the Queluz National Palace) takes place.
Agreed between the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, the Prime Minister of the Portuguese Republic, António Costa, the Portugal-France Season 2022 is organized by the Camões Institute, Institute of Cooperation and Language, IP – Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and by the Office of Strategy, Planning and Cultural Assessment (GEPAC) – Ministry of Culture, with the support of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality); the Ministry of Economy and Digital Transition; the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education; the Ministry of Education; the Ministry of Environment and Climate Action; the Ministry of the Sea; and the Portuguese Embassy in France.
From February to February, under the theme “The Oceanic Feeling”, the Portugal-France2022 Season is more immersive in a great event that brings together two countries immersing themselves in a great event, united by friendship and valuesm and sharing, through 200 events (84 cities in France and 55 cities in Portugal).
