Rain of medals for the German paraclimbing team in Innsbruck
At the IFSC Paraclimbing World Cup Innsbruck 2022, the DAV competed with the largest team in its young history.
In 14 sports classes – more than ever before – 18 German athletes, including three World Cup newcomers, started and showed outstanding performances, which were awarded with 6 finals and in the finals, under the eyes of sports director Martin Veith, with 6 medals became.
Mario Persing showed off his amazing technical skills in the AU1 Men. He found resting positions, even nohandrests in the steep face and took silver behind Onuma Kazuhiko of Japan.
Kevin Bartke, a regular guest on the podium – he has been able to climb the podium at each of his international starts – showed a perfect performance in the AU2 and was able to relegate his permanent rival Brian Zarzuela (USA) to second place.
In the men’s RP1, traditionally strong with DAV athletes, Korbinian Franck, who already dominated the World Cup in Salt Lake City, won wafer-thin gold ahead of Florian Singer.
Nicole Diehl (RP2) climbed strongly in her first World Cup and, after consistently good performances in qualifying and the final, won silver.
16-year-old Rosalie Schaupert made it clear in the strong women’s RP3 at her second World Cup that her 3rd place in the USA was no coincidence.
They climbed higher than Christiane Luttikhuizen (NED) and Marina Diaz, who they beat in Salt Lake City, and were narrowly beaten by Team GB’s Leonora Volpe.
With 2 gold and 4 silver medals, the DAV paraclimbing team topped the medal table for the first time. The strong team performance and the up-and-coming new athletes give reason to expect that there will be a lot of positive things to be heard from the German paraclimbers in the future.
