MYFLEXBOX expands to Germany | Salzburg AG, June 29, 2022
Corporate startup of Salzburg AG on course for success
Salzburg – Less than four years after it was founded, MYFLEXBOX, the largest provider-independent smart locker network in Austria, is about to expand to Germany. The smart parcel stations will also be available in Germany from autumn 2022. By 2030, the corporate startup of Salzburg AG will offer its German neighbors a network density similar to that in Austria in order to make smart city logistics similarly more sustainable. The success of the young company is now continuing with the spin-off from the parent company. On July 1, 2022, MYFLEXBOX will become a 100% subsidiary of Salzburg AG.
With its unique software, MYFLEXBOX is one of the pioneers in the field of provider-independent smart locker systems. The company’s success is based on the accelerated connection of parcel service providers and a large network of location partners. Almost four years after it was founded, the next big step is now taking place: soon the first provider-independent parcel stations with numerous services will also be available in Germany. A network density similar to that in Austria is planned by 2030. Up to 1,000 MYFLEXBOX lockers are to be set up here by the end of 2025.
Convincing benefits for smart city logistics
It should be possible for parcel recipients to collect, send and return parcels around the clock and without contact. Experiences from Austria show that provider-independent smart locker systems offer great added value, especially for parcel service providers and e-commerce providers. “Through our open platform, we offer a fully networked infrastructure for parcel service providers, e-commerce providers, local retailers and end customers. This saves time and unnecessary journeys for everyone involved. With this networked platform, we offer a significant smart city building block and help to strengthen climate protection by reducing CO2 emissions and improving the quality of life for everyone involved. With our MYFLEXBOX, unsuccessful doorstep deliveries are a thing of the past,” explains Jonathan Grothaus, Co-Founder and Head of Product and Strategy at MYFLEXBOX.
Large partner network soon also in Germany
“We have already established valuable and strategic partnerships in residential construction and food retail in Austria over the past few years and can therefore draw on a great deal of experience and expertise,” explains Lukas Wieser, co-founder and head of partnerships and sales at MYFLEXBOX, explaining the background to the rapid growth. “Many of our cooperation partners are convinced of our solution and want to take the step to Germany with us. We are currently analyzing locations that are suitable for us with existing and new location partners.” Similar to Austria, the start-up is initially concentrating on the metropolitan areas of Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and the Ruhr area in particular. Due to inquiries from smaller cities in the Smart City context, selected initial implementations are also planned in this area. When selecting a location, MYFLEXBOX pays particular attention to 24/7 public accessibility and the best possible accessibility in order to optimally implement Smart City logistics access.
From a corporate startup to your own company
The MYFLEXBOX is the best example of how Salzburg AG is closing new business areas with innovative ideas. Originally intended as a storage and delivery option for internal purposes, the Smart Locker idea won first place at the internal Salzburg AG Innovation Challenge 2018. From then on, the concept was continuously sharpened. A year later, the provider-independent locker system became the first corporate start-up of Salzburg AG. “I am pleased that a startup was able to develop from an idea,” explains Salzburg AG CEO Leonhard Schitter, “due to the great success of MYFLEXBOX, it is time to take the next strategic step and the startup on July 1, 2022 from Salzburg AG.” MYFLEXBOX becomes a separate company as a 100% subsidiary of Salzburg AG.
