Big run on amateur theater – salzburg.ORF.at
Culture
After the entire cultural scene suffered particularly from the Corona pandemic, many private theater associations can now look forward to large audiences. The rehearsals for the summer program could only begin in April – under difficult conditions. The demand from viewers is already enormous.
Whether in Seekirchen (Flachgau) with “Otello must not burst”, in St. Veit (Pongau) with “Around the world in 80 days” or in Lofer (Pinzgau) with “A fool rarely comes alone” – right across the entire state Theater associations are particularly active at the moment. As in Seekirchen and St. Veit, Lofer has also been playing for some time.
“Theatrical euphoria across the country”
In the spring, a number of theater associations still had teething problems due to the loss of club members after an uncertain coronavirus winter. There was also concern about whether the audience would return. “But the amateurs have shown that they can do it. We are now seeing theatrical euphoria across the country. There is rehearsal, acting and the audience comes in droves,” says Veronika Pernthaner-Maeke from the Salzburg Amateur Theater Association.
The lake stage Seeham (Flachgau), which wants to delight the audience with the “Devil’s Apprentice” from Friday, is also expecting a great response from the audience. “The audience is really grateful that culture is taking place again. This has to do with the close roots of amateur theater. Amateur theater comes from the center of society,” says Pernthaner-Maeke.
