Athens today without buses and trolleybuses
Strike for Wednesday, June 29 in buses and trolleybuses, in response to the one-year extension of the presence of KTEL buses in public transport.
Athens will be left without buses and trolleys on Wednesday, June 29, as well 24-hour strike decides to go ahead with its Workers’ Union Athens Urban Transport Organization. The union that will organize a rally outside the offices of the Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA), asking not to extend the organization’s contract with the KTEL for another year.
As is well known, a one-year extension should be given to contracts through which urban routes are granted to companies KTEL in Athens and Thessaloniki. Thus, extension of the contract between OASA and KTEL Attica which expires next autumn as it is in force since October 2020. The extension of the contracts is provided in an amendment submitted by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport to its bill Ministry of Finance for the license of the casino of Elliniko and other issues. As stated, the contracts “may be extended until one of their expiration. The extension of subcontracting and subletting contracts, in application of this, constitutes an amendment of the existing contracts in respect of these terms and is subject to the approval of the institution. “
The present lease agreement of 60 OASA bus lines to the KTEL of Attica (which in turn sublets part of the routes to the KTEL of Corinth, Thebes and Evia) had failed as a “temporary” solution to secure more vehicles until the market, due to the new . coronavirus conditions. As the new contract will be amended, the possibility of increasing the allocated bus lines or further modifications of the routes remains open. An additional contract has been in force since last February, through which the number of routes per line was modified.
