President Zuzana Čaputová will represent Slovakia at the NATO summit in Madrid. He will travel there on Tuesday (June 28). TASR was informed about this by the spokesman of the head of state, Martin Strižinec. The summit of NATO leaders will officially end on Thursday.
“This is one of the complete security meetings of the North Atlantic Alliance in particular in the last period, which will discuss how the Russian aggression in Ukraine involves in Europe, including Slovakia,” Strižinec approached. He added that the leaders will also address the Alliance’s response to the new security environment. In this context, it will be necessary to strengthen the military presence on the Eastern Wing.
According to Strižinec, the alliance will also adopt a new strategic concept for the next decade. “All these discussions are also key to the security of the Slovak Republic,” he remarked.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will join the North Atlantic Council online. It will also be attended by other applicants for NATO membership – Finland, Sweden, Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The leaders of Australia, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand will also be present at the summit for the first time, the spokeswoman explained.
On the eve of the official beginning of the summit, Čaputová will take part in a gala dinner hosted by King Philip VI of Spain. and Queen Letiza in the Royal Palace of Madrid.
