A special blood collection will take place on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Herouville Saint Clairnear Caen (Calvados).
“Not enough donors”
The French blood establishment and the Rotary club are organizing this special collection to attract new donors and collect in particular sung rare.
Today, there are not enough donors to cover the needs of patients with the same blood characteristics. And if the reserves of rare blood decrease, the chances of survival of the patients are transmitted.
The Rotary Club of Caen, like those of Cabourg and Cherbourg, is mobilizing in Hérouville to a collection entitled “My blood for others”.
Fight against sickle cell disease
This blood drive aims to attract all donors, especially new and rare blood donors to fight sickle cell disease. What is sickle cell disease? It is a genetic, hereditary disease of the red blood cells. People affected by this disease are “mainly people from sub-Saharan Africa, but also from the West Indies, South America, certain regions of India and African-Americans”.
The treatment against this disease consists in regularly replacing by blood transfusion part of the patient’s red blood cells with other healthy ones from a blood donation.
Thursday, June 30, 2022, Town Hall of Hérouville Saint-Clair, from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
