Portugal Digital Awards prepare new edition – Portugal Digital Awards
Another edition of the Portugal Digital Awards is already underway, a joint initiative by Axians and IDC that aims to recognize and reward the excellence of organizations, their equipment and business leaders in the field of digital transformation.
As explained by Carmo Palma, general manager A, at the moment, encouraging organizations to present their transformation and innovation projects”, something they can do until the next October 7th, when applications close. then for evaluation by the jury “full of unique personalities” and the results will be announced at the Awards Ceremony, on the 6th of December.
This year’s edition has a Digital Lab exclusively dedicated to the theme of Sustainability, which has been on the Digital Awards agenda “for some time now”. A unique opportunity, considering Carmo Palma, to “debate the topic from various lenses, always with a very present business dimension”. In fact, being able to share “what they are doing in Portugal to ensure the sustainability of their business, society and the planet is a point of order”, he also says.
Rating criteria
In terms of the evaluation criteria for the awards themselves, the sustainability factor “is also more relevant”, as well as “issues related to security and data protection”.
However, an administrator of Axians Portugal considers that, in each, as novelties reside, usually, “which are proposed projects and that will change in number and in quality every year”. He says that “this is a great asset highlighted: the organizations that are transformed, our country, through digital”.
It will not be for this reason that membership of the Portugal Digital Awards will increase from year to year: “2021, will be greater representation of 30 sectors of activity.
Gabriel Coimbra, vice president of the group and country manager at IDC, considers that the Portugal Digital Awards is today “the main digital transformation award in Portugal. It is a fundamental initiative to reward the best that is done in terms of digital transformation in Portugal. , as well as companies and public organizations to transform Portugal into a competitive and sustainable economy”.
Carmo Palma adds that “this is very important for the dissemination of companies, which contributes to the learning of best practices and also to show young talent that is being developed in Portugal”.
Independent assessment
Axians is, together with IDC, responsible for ensuring the entire process, with the exception of “the selection and election of projects, which we leave to IDC and the jury”. Carmo Palma explains that “all projects have candidates selected with the support of the selected projects and we also want to ensure that we are not involved in the election of selected projects”.
The Portugal Digital Awards has a wide panel of judges and observers from the most varied sectors – public and private, academic, associative and business – who, “based on an IDC methodological framework, evaluate all the alogical contest” . The initiative mainly assesses the level of technological innovation of the project and the impact it has on business, society and the planet, according to various types of impact. “Technologically identical solutions, but which are very relevant in form, are naturally valued”, explains Carmo Palma.
The IT market in Portugal
For the rest, this is a lively market. As IDC Portugal studies refer, in 2021 a new social and economic paradigm emerged: “In addition to more than 50% of GDP already being influenced by digital, for the first time in history we see an inverse confirmation between IT and the economy. Therefore, “even with one of the biggest drops in GDP in history, the IT market continues to grow”.
Gabriel Coimbra explains that, in 2020, despite the drop of almost 5% in GDP, the IT market grew 3% worldwide and, in Portugal, “where the drop in GDP was almost greater, close to 10%, the IT market grew by almost 2%. In 2021, the market grew by more than 10%.”
In future terms, and although the pandemic has the process of economic transformation of the economy, “as perspectives for the coming years remain uncertain context (inflation and a fast and economic geoeconomic context), as well as the fast geoeconomic context, as well as the useful economic society by the war between Russia and Ukraine”. But despite all the uncertainties, “there is no doubt that in the coming years we will have a digital-first economy and society”, says Gabriel Coimbra.
In parallel, the person in charge of the appointed IDC, an even greater one in the transition from the 2nd to the 3rd technological platform and in innovation promoted: digits at the level of the 3rd platform and accelerated innovation.” And this is relevant “in a market that grows 5%, and where 2nd platform technologies will grow close to 4% a year”, says the same great.
In this context, IDC predicts that much of the investment in technology and digital “will be channeled into new use cases of digital transformation”. Direct investments in digital transformation “will accelerate to an average annual growth of 16.5%, in the period 2022 to 2025”. As a national of this growth, in Portugal the digital transformation will represent 50% of all the investment in ICT by the end of 2025, predicts an IDC.
