PICTURES. The Renaissance frescoes of the Prince’s Palace are revealed for its reopening
July 1 marks the reopening of the Prince’s Palace with two major new features to celebrate the event: the discovery of frescoes dating from the Renaissance and a redevelopment of the Grands Appartements.
The long wait will finally be rewarded. Nine years after the discovery of the first Renaissance fresco and after several years of restoration, no less than 600m² of frescoes have been exposed.
From July 1, these remarkable frescoes will be visible to the general public. The most beautiful paintings are in the Galerie d’Hercule, where the frescoes were discovered for the first time, but also in the Matignon salon, renamed the Chambre d’Europe thanks to the marvelous medallion representing the mythological episode of the abduction. from Europe.
The Throne Room is not to be outdone since a decoration of Ulysses in Nekuia is painted there accompanied by the signs of the Zodiac and the labors of the months.
That’s not all, a redevelopment of the Grands Appartements has been carried out and remarkable works of art have been added. For example, the Green Antechamber now houses paintings by Jacopo Bassano, Orazio de Ferrari and Philippe de Champaigne who were recently bought by Prince Albert II.
