This is the Radisson Collection Gran Vía Bilbao
The Radisson Gran Via Bilbao, which has been receiving guests since March, was officially inaugurated this Wednesday by Chema Basterrechea, president for EMEA of Radisson Hotel Group, and Javier Illán, president and CEO of Grupo Millenium. In these three months the occupation “has been growing”, driven by the national market. The gastronomic proposal, from the hand of Eneko Atxait’s being a great tractor, recognizes the chain.
“The hotel needs more time to establish itself, but the balance of these months is positive, since we observe a growth trend in the local and proximity market”, he told HOSTELTUR tourism news Ander Elortegui, facility manager
From March to this part, “the demand has been increasing” and this is due to the events that have taken place in Bilbao, to the schedule of activities and exhibitions for the 25 years of the Guggenheim Museum and that the north of Spain “is being a trend” among Spaniards.
The hotel is located in a building built in 1950, which housed different banking entities.
The seven-storey establishment, owned by the Socimi Millenium Hospitality Real Estate, is a protected building that was converted for hotel use. The hotel has 137 rooms (two of them suites with private terraces and hydromassage bathtubs), two function rooms, a restaurant that fuses Basque and Japanese food, and a rooftop bar.
Before the end of the year, the chain hopes to open the gym, the yoga studio, a spa and an indoor pool with a waterfall.
The 137 rooms are decorated in the color “blue Bilbao”.
The hotel is LEED Platinum certified for being a green building that consumes 47% less energy and 40% less water compared to similar buildings. In turn, it has obtained recognition from LEED Innovation for creating a “Walkable Project Site”, a concept that incorporates design elements that promote non-motorized forms of transport between the hotel and its surroundings.
A hotel that positions the destination
“The presence of a Radisson Collection hotel places Bilbao on the international map”, he stated Ander Elorteguiremembering that it is the most premium brand of the Radisson Hotel Group and one of the few international flagships of the city.
Since art and design are two distinctive elements of the Radisson Collection hotels, the official opening coincided with an exhibition and a series of immersive activities by English photographer Rich McCor, known as “Paperboyo”.
The NKO restaurant fuses Basque and Japanese cuisine.
A hotel open to the city
Gastronomy plays an important role in all the hotels of the Radisson Collection brand and the one in Bilbao is no exception. The chef’s NKO restaurant Eneko AtxaIt is a commitment to open the hotel to the city and to become a meeting point for locals and visitors.
“The restaurant is full from day one”, has confirmed Ander Elortegui Y Chema Basterrechea has detailed that “at the moment it generates more income than the hotel”. The reason? Gastronomy from the hand of a chef with 5 Michelin stars, location in the center of the city and a rooftop with privileged views
Eneko Atxa also has operating restaurants in the Radisson Collection hotels in Seville and Brussels and soon in the new Radisson RED in Madrid.
The NKO Rooftop Bar has become a new meeting point for the city.
Radisson Hotel Group has opened a hotel this year in Barcelona, in Bilbao (which is the brand’s second in the country) and this year’s growth plan also includes an opening in Lanzarote.
