Comolli: “I no longer wanted people to see Toulouse as ‘to lose'”
Since Redbird’s arrival at TFC in 2020, the club’s image has evolved significantly. In a podcast titled From losing to winning, Damien Comolli returned to the work carried out by the new management to restore Toulouse’s image: “Then we thought about the DNA of the club, the city, the supporters. When I arrived, the club no longer had any relationship with the city. I used to say that the four bridges that connected the Ile du Ramier to the rest of Toulouse had fallen. We therefore reinforced the marketing aspect of the club to allow Toulouse residents to identify with the TFC, then we met with groups of supporters and students, since Toulouse is the second student city. All this in a very specific but: to improve the football culture of Toulouse. I didn’t want people to see Toulouse as “losing” anymore. We interviewed many people who were involved in what was the old TFC: journalists, players, managers and volunteers. After these hours of interviews, we analyzed what they thought were the strengths and weaknesses of the club. So we want to bring quality to all positions at TFC, expand the fanbase and make the academy even better. Clearly, to do everything so that the club is freed from the negative spirit that surrounded it. The best reward we had was the sold-out match against Paris FC, and 100% of the spectators were purple. It was Toulouse, the new Toulouse, the one we want to create eventually. This club that often lost, now wins in every way”.
