Tony’s Chocolonley launches new online chocolate shop in Austria – mnews – medianet.at
VIENNA. The Dutch chocolate producer Tony’s Chocolonley, which campaigns against illegal child labor and modern slavery in cocoa bean cultivation in West Africa, is now also selling its bars in Austria online. The chocolate shop offers a total of ten varieties as
180 g bars for €3.49 each: White chocolate with raspberry and crackling sugar, pretzel toffee, 70% dark chocolate, Tony’s Greatest Bits, hazelnut, whole milk, almond sea salt, honey-almond nougat, creamy hazelnut crunch and the international Best selling caramel sea salt. In addition, chocolate fans can immerse themselves in the world of Tony’s with the Rainbow Pack and taste their way through six different varieties. Another extra of the online chocolate shop is that all seasonal products and limited editions can be ordered while stocks last.
The classic range from Tony’s Chocolonely is still available in stationary retail – at Spar, Eurospar, Interspar, SparGourmet and now also at Billa Plus.
Tony’s Chocolonely’s strategy against child labor has a name: “Tony’s Open Chain”. This is what Tony’s calls his initiative for a fairer cocoa supply chain, launched in 2019, which is expressly meant as an invitation to competitors. The idea: if everyone pulls together when purchasing cocoa, the chocolate industry can work together to eliminate human rights violations in its supply chain – after all, you can still compete on the supermarket shelf.
Anyone who joins Tony’s Open Chain has the opportunity to purchase their cocoa beans based on Tony’s five sourcing criteria:
1. 100% traceable cocoa beans
2. Fair prices for cocoa farmers
3. Supporting confident cocoa farmers and
-Cooperatives
4. Long-term partnerships and
5. Subsidy programs for richer and higher quality harvests.
“‘Tony’s Open Chain’ has what it takes to make supply chains fairer in the long term and prevent exploitation,” says Niki Huemer (Country Manager DA-CH). Tony’s is anything but a charity project. Since day one, Tony’s has combined social impact and commercial success – becoming an inspiration for the entire industry. As a result, more and more companies are joining “Tony’s Open Chain” and are thus making an ever greater impact. (red)
